What to Expect
What to Expect: Fertility & IVF Support
Acupuncture can support natural fertility as well as assisted cycles such as IUI and IVF.
During your first visit:
- Detailed intake: We’ll review menstrual history, cycle patterns, fertility work‑ups (lab results, imaging), prior pregnancies, miscarriages, and any Western treatments you’re doing now.
- Lifestyle & stress assessment: We’ll discuss stress, sleep, digestion, work schedule, exercise, and diet—all of which affect hormonal balance and implantation.
- Chinese medicine diagnosis: Using tongue, pulse, and palpation, I identify patterns that may be affecting fertility (such as blood deficiency, Qi stagnation, or underlying heat/cold).
- Individualized treatment plan: I’ll explain how we’ll time treatments around your cycle or IVF calendar, how often to come, and what you can reasonably expect in terms of changes in cycle quality, symptoms, and mood.
- First acupuncture session: Points are chosen to regulate the cycle, support ovaries and uterus, calm the nervous system, and improve blood flow to the reproductive organs. Most people feel deeply relaxed.
Over a series of treatments, you can expect:
- More regulated cycles and improved PMS or menstrual pain
- Better sleep and stress resilience during trying‑to‑conceive or IVF
- A clearer sense of support and partnership on your fertility journey
What to Expect: Pain & Musculoskeletal Conditions
Acupuncture can be an effective option for both acute and chronic pain.
During your first visit:
- History of your pain: We’ll go through when it started, what worsens or improves it, previous imaging (X‑rays, MRIs), medications, surgeries, and physical therapy.
- Functional assessment: I’ll observe posture and range of motion and gently palpate the affected areas and related channels (meridians) to locate tight bands, trigger points, and areas of stagnation.
- Clear treatment strategy: I’ll explain the pattern from a Chinese medicine perspective and outline how many sessions are typically needed, based on your condition and goals.
- First acupuncture session: Very thin needles are placed locally and/or distally (away from the pain, such as hands or feet) to reduce inflammation, relax muscles, and improve circulation. We may include cupping or gentle manual therapy if appropriate.
Over a series of treatments, you can expect:
- Gradual reduction in pain intensity and frequency
- Increased mobility and ease in daily activities
- Better body awareness and self‑care strategies to prevent flare‑ups
What to Expect: Stress, Anxiety & Insomnia
Here the focus is on regulating the nervous system and emotional balance.
During your first visit:
- Comprehensive discussion: We’ll talk about your stress load, anxiety symptoms (racing thoughts, palpitations, tension), mood changes, and sleep patterns (difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or early waking).
- Mind–body assessment: Using tongue and pulse diagnosis, I evaluate how stress is affecting your organs and channels (for example, Heart, Liver, Spleen in TCM terms).
- Collaborative plan: I’ll explain how acupuncture can calm the nervous system, improve sleep architecture, and support mood, and we’ll set a realistic frequency for sessions.
- Calming acupuncture treatment: Points are selected to quiet the mind, relax the body, and regulate the stress response. Many people fall asleep on the table or feel a heavy, grounded sense of calm.
Over a series of treatments, you can expect:
- Deeper, more continuous sleep and easier transitions into sleep
- Less reactivity to daily stressors and improved emotional stability
- Practical tools (breathing, simple meditations, lifestyle tweaks) to use between sessions
What to Expect: Pregnancy & Postpartum Support
Acupuncture can support you through each trimester and into the postpartum period.
During your first visit:
- Pregnancy‑specific intake: We’ll review your current week of pregnancy, OB/midwife notes, prior pregnancies, and any complications or concerns.
- Symptom review: Common concerns include nausea, heartburn, fatigue, pain (low back, hips, ribs), sciatica, sleep issues, anxiety, and preparation for labor.
- Safety‑conscious plan: I’ll explain which points and techniques are appropriate for your current stage, how often to come, and what we’ll focus on (e.g., nausea relief, pain reduction, turning a breech baby when appropriate, or ripening the cervix near term).
- Gentle acupuncture session: Points are chosen to relieve specific symptoms and to support overall energy and circulation for you and the baby. Positioning is carefully adjusted for comfort and safety.
Postpartum visits may include:
- Support for recovery from birth (vaginal or cesarean)
- Help with fatigue, mood changes, anxiety, and sleep
- Assistance with lactation issues and overall hormonal rebalancing
Over a series of treatments, you can expect:
- Reduced pregnancy‑related discomforts and improved sleep
- A calmer, more grounded emotional state
- Smoother recovery and stronger resilience in the postpartum months
